Funeral to be Held Tuesday For Farm Youth of Twelve Killed in Accident Saturday

Donald Dantice Fatally Hurt as Automobile Driven by Brother Leaves Highway; Driver Escapes Bad Injury

MONTE VISTA, April 12--(Special)--Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Methodist church here for Donald Eugene Dantice, twelve-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Dantice who was killed Saturday afternoon in an automobile accident northwest of here.

The boy was fatally injured when the new high-powered car driven by his brother, Kenneth Dantice, fifteen, went out of control at a high rate of speed and overturned twice. Donald was crushed as the car hurtled over.

Suffering from a skull fracture, a ghastly wound in his left chest, badly lacerated right arm, internal unjuries and bruises from head to foot, the child died while he was being rushed to Del Norte hospital by John Drake, a farmer who was first to pass the scene of the accident. Kenneth Dantice was only slightly hurt.

The dead boy was the son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Dantice, who live northwest of Monte Vista. The accident occurred at a point about eight miles from here while the two boys were driving home after attending a meeting at the schoolhouse.

According to Courtesy Patrol Supervisor Arnold Gulzow, who investigated the accident, the car must have been going at a fast clip when it apparently swung sideways in the road, skidded about 50 feet, then overturned twice. Two tires were blown out, but whether the blowouts occurred before the crash or when the car skidded had not been determined. The car was virtually a total wreck, the entire body being smashed out of shape.

The Rev. A. C. Hoover will officiate at the services Tuesday, and interment will take place in the Monte Vista cemetery. Pallbearers will be Orville Drake, Everett Sanderson, Loren Sanderson, Marvin Plunkett, Carl Devine and Robert Devine. The Home mortuary has charge of the arrangements.

Donald Dantice is survived by his parents, three sisters and two brothers.
